The purpose of these tours is to offer Grinnell residents and visitors an easy way to become better acquainted with the early history of Grinnell and its landscape. The tours are not time intensive and are aimed at those who have an hour or so to spare and would like to spend that time driving around the countryside learning something about early Grinnell. The first four tours focus on the Mormon Handcart Trail, the Stagecoach Road, the Government Land Office Survey, and J.B. Grinnell’s first days in the area. The files are in Adobe .pdf format, so you will need Adobe Acrobat to open the files. If you have any suggestions for future tours or comments on how to improve these, please let me know at chris@ivrcd.org. The tours were made possible by funding from the Grinnell College Office of Community Enhancement. |
